Stanford Earns Top NCAA Tournament Seed

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's volleyball team (27-2) will begin the postseason on top, as the Cardinal earned the overall No. 1 seed in the 2007 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship when the 2007 field was announced tonight. The Cardinal will host the First and Second Rounds this weekend, and will begin the tournament against Santa Clara (19-11) on Friday night.
Stanford will be making its 27th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and will be seeking its seventh NCAA title and 17th Final Four appearance. Stanford will stick close to home for the entire postseason, as Maples Pavilion is a predetermined site for one of the Dec. 7-8 Regionals, and the 2007 Final Four will be held at ARCO Arena in Sacramento.
The Cardinal wrapped up the regular-season Friday night with a 27-2 overall record and won its unprecedented 11th Pac-10 Championship. The Cardinal played the toughest regular-season schedule in the nation in 2007, and was rewarded with the top seed in the 64-team field.
Stanford will open the tournament Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Maples Pavilion against local rival Santa Clara. The Broncos were Co-Champions in the West Coast Conference this season, and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
Minnesota (18-12) and Sacramento State (28-7) will meet in the other First Round match-up at Maples Pavilion on Friday at 5 p.m. The Golden Gophers earned an at-large bid after finishing tied for third in the Big 10, while Sacramento State was the automatic qualifier from the Big Sky Conference.
