Soni Resets Own USC 200y Breast Record

Junior Rebecca Soni became the third Trojan to break a school record in the last three days, doing so in her trademark 200y breast, to highlight the USC women's and men's swimming teams on the third day of the 2007 Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center on Saturday (Dec. 1) in Seattle, Wash.
The women's squad finished first with 1369 points while the men's team was third (893).
Soni won the 200y breast in 2:07.08, breaking her school record of 2:08.16 set at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships. Junior Katy Houston had her own fine swim, posting a personal best 2:12.51, good for an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Junior Missy McIntyre also scored an NCAA consideration time in the race (2:17.46) while winning the consolation final.
Lahey, who set the USC record in the 100y back (53.04) on Friday, won the 200y back in an NCAA consideration 1:58.44
Junior Rachael Waller was fourth in the 100y free in 50.59, an NCAA consideration mark, after a prelim 50.24 while senior Richard Gosper was fourth (44.18) on the men's side after a 44.01 prelim, another NCAA `B' cut. Gosper broke the men's 50y free Thursday.
Junior Vanni Mangoni was fifth in the 200y breast (2:00.12), an NCAA `B' cut.
Senior Emily Goetsch notched her second NCAA automatic in as many days with a second in the 200y fly in 1:58.77. Waller was seventh (2:03.86) and Hartwell was eighth (2:05.36). Bryce Elser was seventh on the men's side in the race (1:48.48).
