Three Bears Earn All-Pac-10 Honors

Dec. 3, 2007

BERKELEY - Three members of the California men's cross country team have earned All-Pac-10 honors to add to the team's tremendous list of accomplishments for the 2007 season. Junior Yosef Ghebray was a first-team selection, while senior David Torrence and junior Mark Matusak were named to the second team.

'This is a great accomplishment for these three,' Cal head coach Tony Sandoval said. 'They were the core group on this year's team and I hope they continue this success in the following seasons.'

Ghebray paced the Golden Bears at the Pac-10 championships and the NCAA West Regional. At the conference meet, he posted a season-best time of 23:14 and a seventh-place finish. Ghebray followed that performance with an eighth-place showing at the regional.

Torrence claimed all-conference honors for the second straight season, earning second-team recognition in 2006. He finished first among the Bears in three meets in 2007 and recorded three top-10 finishes. He came in third at the Stanford Invitational and toured the course first for Cal when it competed for the first time as a team at the NCAA championships on Nov. 19. He clocked his best time of the season at the Pac-10 championships (23:17) to take ninth overall.

Matusak crossed the finish line in the top 15 three times this season, including an eighth-place showing at the Pac-10 championships, where he also earned his best time of the year (23:16). He also took 10th at the Stanford Invitational and 11th at the NCAA West Regional.
