WSU Receives 13 Honors for Pacific-10 All-Academic Teams

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Seven women and six men from Washington State University were named to the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams Friday by Commissioner Dave Hirsch.
Sara Trané, a sophomore from Pixbo, Sweden, and Chelsea VanDeBrake, a sophomore from Yakima, Wash., were named to the women's first team. Trané maintains a 3.97 grade point average in Psychology and VanDeBrake is undeclared with a 3.93 GPA. Five other women received honorable mention awards. Sophomore Lisa Egami, Coquitlam, British Columbia (undeclared), senior Isley Gonzalez, Sunnyside, Wash. (education), junior Meghan Leonard, Newberg, Ore. (movement studies), redshirt sophomore Marisa Sandoval, Los Alamos, N.M. (English), and Becky Williams, Federal Way, Wash. (undeclared), were all named honorable mention.
Junior Evan Blanshan, a business major from Selah, Wash., and junior civil engineering major Drew Polley, a Port Orchard, Wash. native, earned men's first team honors with 3.70 and 3.73 GPAs respectively. Two Cougars were named to the second team as well. Bellingham, Wash. native Alex Grant has a 3.51 GPA in environmental science, and sophomore Daniel Geib carries a 3.54 GPA and is undeclared. Andrew Jones, senior, Gillette, Wyo. (wildlife ecology), and Chris Williams, senior, Federal Way, Wash. (education) were given honorable mention honors.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. A total of 83 women and 44 men were selected for the 2007 Pac-10 Cross Country All-Academic teams.
