The Women of Troy Lose at Michigan
Dec. 10, 2007
USC lost 61-82 to the Michigan Wolverines on Monday (Dec. 10) at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This loss was the second-straight for the Women of Troy.
Michigan started off the game with a hot shooting hand, putting the Women of Troy in a 16-2 hole. 12 of those 16 points were from behind the 3-point arc. The Women of Troy would rebound from the deficit thanks to 3 back-to-back scores. Senior guard Allison Jaskowiak and junior guard Camille LeNoir drained a 3-pointer each and sophomore guard Heather Oliver added a 2-pointer to cut the lead to 6, making it10-16 at the 12:31 mark in the first half. However, that is the closest that USC would come to cutting into Michigan's lead. The Wolverines' hot shooting hand carried them throughout the first half. They shot 71.4% from 3-point range and 58.6% from the field. Both senior guard Krista Clement and junior guard Jessica Minnfield were 3 of 3 from three point range for the Wolverines. Michigan saw their lead grow to 22 and at the end of the half the score was 28-48. The Women of Troy were led in the first half by Allison Jaskowiak who put in 7 points and added 2 steals.
The Women of Troy came out in the second half ready to make up some of the deficit. Forward Nadia Parker added a 2-point field goal at 19:03 to cut the lead to 20. However, the Wolverines continued to shoot well and their post play proved to be trouble for the Women of Troy. They converted 6 of 9 shots inside the key in the second half. The Wolverines' shooting percentage decreased in the second half to 42.3% from the field and 27.3% from 3-point range, but the Women of Troy themselves only shot 33.3% from the field and 11.1% from 3-point range, which proved to not be enough to make up the deficit. The Michigan lead grew to as much as 30 with 7:40 mark, but with 1:24 left in the second half USC closed the gap to 18 after Heather Oliver made a lay up and completed the and-1 play. That was the closest that USC would come in the second half to Michigan and the final score recorded a 61-82 loss for the Trojans.
Heather Oliver led the Trojans with 11 points and added 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.
The Women of Troy will travel home and look to rebound against Pepperdine on Saturday (Dec. 15) at 2 pm at the Galen Center.
