Three Cougars Named Sporting News Freshman All-America

Dec. 12, 2007

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University football players Micah Hannam, Chima Nwachukwu and Reid Forrest were each named to The Sporting News' Freshman All-America team, it was announced recently. Each of the three individuals were named honorable mention.

Hannam, a 6-foot-4, 278-pound native of Gig Harbor, Wash., started all 12 games at right tackle for the Cougars, helping the offensive line pave the way for two different 100-yard rushers and protect quarterback Alex Brink, who led the conference in total offense this season. As a team WSU leads the conference in passing offense (319.7 yards per game) and ranks second in total offense (435.6 yards per game).

Nwachukwu, a native of Allen, Texas, started all 12 games for WSU this season. The 5-11, 189-pound true freshman finished sixth on the team in tackles with 73 stops (48 solo). Nwachukwu also intercepted one pass, recorded five pass break-ups and forced a fumble.

Forrest, a 6-0, 179-pound punter from Ephrata, Wash., played in 10 of the Cougars' games this season, starting eight. Forrest averaged 40.5 yards per punt with a net of 37.9 using a rugby-style punt. During a three-game stretch Forrest punted seven times, only one of which was returned for -2 yards.
