Cougar Soccer Earns National Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Washington State women's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for 2006-07 marking the third time in the last four years the Cougars have received the honor.

Washington State posted a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.41, well above the minimum 3.00 required for the award. The Cougars' GPA was best in the Pacific-10 Conference among women and men and third in the NCAA Division I Women's West Region behind Portland (3.51) and Saint Mary's (3.46).

The team award added to the individual academic achievements of the WSU program this season. Senior Brooke Bemis was named ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District VIII First Team and Pacific-10 First Team. Overall, the Cougars had 15 student-athletes received recognition from the conference.
