Teo Wins Three Gold Medals at Southeast Asia Games

Dec. 15, 2007

Bruin senior Nicolette Teo earned three gold medals at the Southeast Asia Games in Korat, Thialand. Teo, who was competing for Singapore, served as the team captain and led the national team to one of their best performances in recent years.

Teo started off her medal winning with a huge swim in the 100 breast. She set a new Singapore National record as well as a SEA Games record with her winning swim of 1:10.15. That time is also an Olympic 'B' cut time.

In the 4x100m medley relay, Teo helped the team to a gold medal and new SEA Games record (4:13.18).

Teo notched her third and final gold medal in the 200 breaststroke as she swam an Olympic 'B' qualifying time of 2:31.96. That time just missed the SEA Games record by .06 seconds.

After the SEA Games competition, Teo is all but assured a spot at the 2008 Olympic Games, her third Olympic competition of her career. She has previously compted at the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2000 Sydney Olympics.

'Yeah, it's a good outing for me, I'm really, really happy,' she said. 'I've never won both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events at the same Games.

'And it's great to have qualified for the Olympics in both events. I'm so proud to get to represent Singapore in my third Olympics Games.

'I've been thinking about it now that I'm older, and, wow, I really am lucky. Not many people have this opportunity.'
