USC Selected Third In Final 2007 AVCA Poll
Dec. 23, 2007
LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's volleyball program finished third in the nation for the final AVCA poll of the 2007 season. The Trojans finished 29-5 overall and reached the NCAA semifinals for the fourth time in six seasons.
The program added two more All-Americans to its prestigious history with senior opposite Asia Kaczor (Wroclaw, Poland/College of Southern Idaho) earning first team honors while sophomore setter Taylor Carico (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) received second team honors.
Despite the loss of five seniors, the team will add 6-4 redshirt freshman middle/outside hitter Lauren Williams (Houston, Texas/Stratford HS) to its lineup. Junior middle blocker Kelli Tennant, who served as a team co-captain this season despite being out the whole year with a back injury, is expected to return and the addition of Carico's former Mira Costa High teammate in freshman setter Kendall Bateman might give the Trojans a different look in 2008.
USC completed one of its most successful fall campaigns with the women's soccer team winning its first national championship, the men's water polo team being national runners-up, the third-place finish of the women's volleyball team and the football team winning its sixth straight Pac-10 Conference title, along with its sixth consecutive BCS bowl appearance in the upcoming Rose Bowl against Illinois.
