Hooker, Jesolva, Morgan Earn Soccer Buzz, Soccer America Honors

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior defender Courtney Hooker has been named a first-team Soccer Buzz All-West region selection, and freshman defender Megan Jesolva was selected to the second team and freshman forward Alex Morgan earned a spot on the third team. Morgan was also chosen second-team All-Freshman by Soccer America.

Hooker has earned an assortment of honors for the 2007 season, including first-team NSCAA All-Far West Region, first-team All-Pac-10, second-team Lowe's Senior All-American and second-team Pac-10 All-Academic. Hooker helped Cal record 11 shutouts this season and 45 in the 85 games of her collegiate career. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native also notched her first career goal this season in a home win over Washington State.

Jesolva, a Pac-10 All-Freshman honoree, played in all 21 games and made 18 starts on the Bears' back line as a rookie. A native of La Mirada, Calif., Jesolva helped the Bears post a 0.93 goals-against average and registered two assists. She brought versatility to the Bears' lineup as she also can play in the midfield or up top.

Morgan led Cal in points (18) and goals (8) in 2007. The Diamond Bar, Calif., product posted the game-tying goal in the second-round NCAA Tournament game against Stanford, sending the contest into overtime tied at 1-1 and on to penalty kicks where the Bears' season eventually came to an end. Morgan tallied three game-winning goals on her way to honorable mention all-conference recognition and Pac-10 All-Freshman accolades.

Cal finished 2007 with a 15-5-1 record in its first season under the direction of head coach Neil McGuire. The Bears were 7-0-1 over their final eight games, including earning their second victory of the year over Santa Clara (2-0) in the first round of the postseason. This marked the first time Cal has ever accumulated more than one win over Santa Clara in the same season.
