WASHINGTON STATE, at 11-0 and off to its best start since 1991-92 when it started 12-0, is ranked No. 4 in this week's polls, while UCLA steps in behind the Cougars at No. 5... The Pac-10 posted a 16-3 (.842) record last week. The margin of victory in those 16 wins was +16.5... The Pac-10 is 85-23 (.787) in non-conference play this season... Washington State is one of nine Division I teams that remain unbeaten... This week's Top 25 polls include Washington State (No. 4 AP/No. 4 ESPN/USA Today), UCLA (No. 5/No. 5), ARIZONA (17/18), STANFORD (NR/22), and USC (24/NR).
Sophomore F Jordan Hill is averaging 19.0 points/11.5 rebounds the last two games.
Arizona posted its largest rebound margin of the season against Fresno State, outboarding the Bulldogs, 41-25. It was the fourth time in the last five games that the Cats have outrebounded the opposition and three of those are +9 or better. Over the last five games, Arizona is outrebounding the opposition by an average of +7.4, a figure that is 3.2 rebounds per game better than its season average.
Freshman G Jerryd Bayless has scored in double digits in each game this season and leads the team in scoring at 20.0 ppg. He's scored 20 or more points in each of the last four games.
ASU's 77-55 win over No. 17 Xavier on Saturday is the largest win over a ranked team in school history. The previous best was ASU's 20-point win at top-ranked Oregon State (87-67) on March 7, 1981. It was also the first non-conference home win over a ranked opponent since No. 14 ASU beat No. 7 Ohio State 71-58 on Dec. 20, 1980.
In the win over Xavier, ASU started four freshmen for the first time in school history.
ASU is shooting a Pac-10-leading .773 from the free throw line (119-of-154). In his 10 seasons at NC State, Coach Sendek's teams led the ACC four times in FT percentage. In 2004 NC State led the nation and set the ACC record by shooting .799 from the line.
Cal has won 18 of its last 19 non-conference games in Haas Pavilion where it is 5-0 this season.
Sophomore F Ryan Anderson leads the Pac-10 and ranks 12th nationally in scoring at 22.7 points per game. Anderson and sophomore G Patrick Christopher (18.9) combine to form the league's highest-scoring tandem at 41.6 points per game.
The return of senior C DeVon Hardin has improved Cal's defense. In the final 22 games last season without the injured Hardin, Cal's defense allowed the opposition to shoot 49.7% from the field. In seven games this season, opponents are shooting 39.3%.
After just 45 games into his Oregon career, sophomore G Tajuan Porter ranks 10th on the school's career list with 137 career three-point baskets.
Senior F Maarty Leunen became the 11th Oregon player all-time to reach 700 career rebounds. His total of 712 ranks 10th on the school's all-time list.
Dating back to last season, Oregon has been ranked by the Associated Press for a school record 21 consecutive weeks.
Porter and senior G Malik Hairston get a home game of sorts this week as they play Oakland at the Palace of Auburn Hills, just north of their hometown of Detroit.
Senior F Marcel Jones needs eight points to reach 1,000 points for his career and become the 34th OSU player all-time to reach that milestone. With eight rebounds against Tennessee Tech, Jones pushed his career rebound numbers to 502.
Sophomore G Seth Tarver leads the Beavers in scoring at 15.4 points per game, followed by Jones at 15.2 points per game.
Jones is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game over the last four games. He's collected at least five rebounds in each contest this season. His 8.2 rebounds per game average this season ranks seventh in the league.
At 8-1, the Cardinal are off to their best start in four seasons under coach Trent Johnson.
Sophomore C Robin Lopez needs two blocked shots to become the fifth Cardinal all-time to reach 100 career blocked shots.
Junior G Anthony Goods has hit a combined 8-of-10 (.800) from beyond the arc the last two games.
Sophomore G Landry Fields scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting in Stanford's exhibition win over College of Idaho. He was 3-of-5 from three-point range, while adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Stanford is second in the nation in rebound margin (+13.1).
With the win over Idaho State, coach Ben Howland picked up his 100th win at UCLA. He tied former UCLA coaches John Wooden and Steve Lavin as the second fastest to 100 wins (in 142 games) in school history. Former UCLA coach Jim Harrick hit 100 wins in 136 games.
UCLA is 9-0 when it outrebounds the opposition. The Bruins are second in the league with a +10.1 rebound margin.
Junior G Darren Collison shot 8-of-11 from the field to score a season-high 20 points in the win over Idaho State. Since returning from his knee injury, Collison is averaging 14.0 points and 4.0 assists.
Freshman F Davon Jefferson is averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over the last four games.
Freshman G O.J. Mayo has scored in double digits in each of USC's nine games this season. Mayo's 184 points scored this season are the most by a Pac-10 freshman through nine games since the 1996-97 season.
Redshirt freshman F Kasey Cunningham suffered an ACL and meniscus tear in his left knee during practice on Dec. 12. He is expected to undergo season-ending surgery in the next few weeks. Cunningham averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in USC's first nine games.
In the two games since his return from a thumb injury, senior G Ryan Appleby is shooting 10-of-20 from three-point range. In just two games, he's tallied 18.5 percent of the team's entire three-point total for the season (54).
The Huskies have used four different starting lineups in nine games this season, including three different lineups in each of the last three games.
Freshman G Venoy Overton is one of three freshmen in the Pac-10 who rank in the top four in the league in steals. USC's O.J. Mayo (1st/1.89 spg), Overton (3rd/1.78), and Arizona State's James Harden (T4th/1.56).
At 9-0, WSU is off to the school's best start since the 1991-92 squad opened the season winning its first 12 contests.
Junior C Aron Baynes is shooting 18-of-25 (.720) from the field over the last three games. He leads the Pac-10 in field goal percentage (38-of-57, .667).
WSU leads the Pac-10 in field goal percentage (.511), thanks to Baynes, senior F Robbie Cowgill (.654) and junior G Taylor Rochestie (.615).
The Cougars countinue to apply the defensive pressure as they lead the league and are second in the nation in scoring defense at 52.4 points per game. They trail Arkansas-Little Rock (51.8 ppg allowed).
