Golden Bears Arrive in Fort Worth
Dec. 27, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of California football team arrived in Fort Worth on Thursday, beginning preparation for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. The game against Air Force will be played Monday, Dec. 31, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (Pacific). It will be televised live nationally on ESPN.
Much of the team and staff had an early morning wake-up call as they departed on a charter flight from Oakland at 7:30 a.m. The entire team had the opportunity to spend a holiday break with family and friends as the final practice in Berkeley was on Dec. 21. Many players flew commercially to Texas with the entire team meeting at the hotel.
Upon arrival at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, the team scrambled to fit a full schedule of events into its first day in Texas. A police escort whisked the team to Fort Worth's Renaissance Worthington Hotel in the eclectic and historic Sundance Square. After a quick check-in, the players quickly re-boarded the busses for the short drive to the campus of TCU for practice.
The team drilled on the practice fields at TCU, just a stone's throw from Amon G. Carter Stadium, where Monday's game will be played. After a bit over two hours of practice, it was time to shower and again rush to the team busses for a trip back downtown for dinner at Reata's Restaurant. Immediately following dinner, the team attended a comedy show in the restaurant.
The evening is expected to include some rest and relaxation, as well as film review and a team meeting. Friday will include a kickoff dinner at Texas Motor Speedway and another practice at TCU.
