Q and A with #22 Jasmine Williams
Jan. 16, 2008
Freshman guard Jasmine Williams from Kent, Wash., played high school ball for Seattle Prep. She has played in all 16 of the Cougars match-ups this season and has started in nine. She has scored a total of 90 points on the season giving her an average of 5.6 points per game.
You have scored a career high 11 points against both Los Angeles schools and led the team for the first time against UCLA. What would you say has helped you achieve that accomplishment and what work went into that?
'I think we all played hard as a team and when the games get intense like that you just want to do what it takes to get the win. It just takes over you.'
As conference play is getting under way, what goals, either personal or team related do you have for the remainder of the season?
'As a team, I think we just want to go out there and play as hard as we can and leave it all out there on the floor. (We want to) put a whole game together, forty minutes playing hard while playing our system of Cougar basketball and just trying to get a few wins out of it.'
Have brother Corey Williams and cousin Brandon Gibson, who are both members of the Cougar football team, helped you in your first year as a Cougar? How?
'For sure. Just as far as getting to know the ropes. You know when I first came in I thought, `Oh, this is so hard. This is the hardest thing I've ever done.' They told me that it gets easier and that I would get into shape. They go to the games and they're always giving me feedback on everything afterward. They have really supported me a lot and made it easier.'
What is your favorite moment of the 2007-08 season so far?
'I would have to say the USC game because it was our closest game so far and I felt like we were all on the same page and we were all really working hard, as hard as we could, and it just felt really good.'
Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals?
'We blast the music and everybody just kind of dances around and that's my favorite part of pre-game. It's all about getting loose and getting ready to play.'
