Men's Tennis Begins Doubles Play At Sherwood Cup

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The Cardinal closed out day two of the Sherwood Cup with three wins in singles consolation and a bye to the second round of doubles competition today in Westlake Village, Calif.
Stanford had three teams compete in doubles. Gregory Hirshman/Richard Wire fell to UCLA's Nick Meister/Harel Sruoo 8-4, and Baylor's David Galic/Lars Poerschke defeated Kevin Kaiser/Phil Kao 8-5. Ted Kelly/Blake Muller, the number three seed in doubles, received a bye into the quarterfinal round and will play tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
In singles consolation action, Stanford tallied three wins out of six matches. Ted Kelly defeated USC's Andrew Piotrowski 7-6, 6-4, Blake Muller defeated Baylor's David Galic 6-2, 6-3, and Richard Wire handedly defeated Pepperdine's Brian Brogan 6-1, 6-2.
The Cardinal will be back in action Sunday for the third day of the Sherwood Cup.
