McVeigh Advances In Singles, Doubles With Burdette

STANFORD, Calif.- Freshman Carolyn McVeigh continued her impressive run at the NCTC Classic on Saturday, advancing to the singles title match.

McVeigh had little trouble with Georgia Tech's Maya Johansson 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before upsetting USC's Lindsey Nelson 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinal round.

McVeigh will also team up with sophomore Lindsay Burdette for Sunday's doubles semifinals as the duo faces UCLA's Tracy Lin and Riza Zalameda.

Earlier in the day, Zalameda posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Burdette in the singles quarterfinals.

Junior Isamarie Perez dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to UCLA's Lin in the quarterfinal consolation round.

Perez and senior Celia Durkin were defeated in the doubles consolation semifinals, withdrawing from competition against USC's Nelson and Maria Sanchez.
