The No. 20 USC men's swimming team and the No. 21 USC women's swimming team returned to Pac-10 conference dual meet action on Friday (Jan. 25), but fell against northwest rival Washington at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium.

The rain that has drenched Southern California this week took a well-timed break, but the meet was still raced in damp, low 50s weather as the USC men's squad fell to 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the Pac-10, while the women dropped to 4-3, 1-3. Washington's women improved to 7-4, 2-4 while the men are 5-7, 1-4.

USC senior Whitney Hentzen and juniors Rachael Waller and Rebecca Soni each won a pair of races to lead the Women of Troy. Waller touched first in the 100y (51.15) and 200y free (1:50.12) while Soni provided her usual sweep in the breaststroke events, gliding to wins in the 100y (1:01.97) and 200y breast (2:14.09).

Hentzen won the distance events, reaching the wall first in the 500y (4:52.60) and 1000y free (9:58.55), the latter a season-best effort.

On the men's side, Jake Grosser took first in the 50y free (20.58), senior Bryce Elser won the 100y fly (49.89) and junior Vanni Mangoni won the 200y IM (1:51.39).

Freshman Dillon Connolly was second in both the 200y IM (1:51.39) and the 1000y free (9:27.33) while junior Ankur Poseria was third in the 100y fly (49.89).
