Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA women's basketball team battled back from a 15-point first half deficit to post a 74-70 win over Oregon State Saturday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion. Oregon State jumped out to a quick 15 point-lead, 22-7, at the 11:13 mark before the Bruins rebounded using a suffocating full-court press that forced 17 turnovers in the first half. UCLA trimmed the lead to four, 36-32, with 1:29 left in the half on a Lindsey Pluimer three-point play that capped a 14-5 Bruin run. The Beavers scored the final basket of the half to take a 38-32 lead into the locker room at the break.
Oregon State built its advantage back up to as much as eight points, 46-38 at the 17:02 mark, before the Bruins turned it up a notch. With 21.5 seconds left and UCLA clinging to a four-point lead, freshman Christina Nzekwe went to the line for one-and-ones and hit the front end to give UCLA a five-point advantage. Alex Mitchell scored a quick layup for Oregon State, and the Beavers sent Pluimer to the foul line for two free throws. Pluimer made both foul shots to give the Bruins a 72-67 lead with 6.9 seconds to play. OSU's Brittney Davis banked in a three-point shot with 1.5 to play to narrow the gap to two points. Nzekwe was fouled before UCLA could inbound the ball and made both ends of a double bonus free throw situation for an insurmountable 74-70 lead.
