Bruins 10th in USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Preseason Poll

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The UCLA softball team has been ranked 10th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Preseason Poll as announced by the Amateur Softball Association on Tuesday. The Bruins picked up one first-place vote and 304 points.

Although the rankings differed, the same 25 teams from the NFCA poll were in the USA Softball poll. Seven of the eight Pac-10 teams are in the Top 25, led by top-ranked and defending champion Arizona. Other league teams in the rankings are Arizona State (2), Washington (14), Stanford (17), Oregon State (19) and Oregon (23), while California is also receiving votes.
Among the Bruins' non-conference opponents, seven are in the Top 25, including fifth-ranked Oklahoma, which UCLA plays twice during the season-opening Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Northwestern (6), Baylor (9), Virginia Tech (15), Hawai'i (16), Missouri (21) and Cal State Fullerton (24) are also UCLA opponents which are ranked.
The Bruins open their 2008 season at Easton Stadium on Feb. 8 against Nevada (10 a.m.) and Oklahoma (12:30 p.m.). UCLA faces Santa Clara (1 p.m.) and UC Santa Barbara (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Oklahoma again on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
