The Texas Thoroughbred
Though he seldom gets back to his home state these days, JuniorCoffey, who earned a spot in Texas history during the 1950s as the firstAfrican-American to integrate Dimmitt High School in the Panhandle, remains proud to say, 'Once a Texan, always a Texan.'
Despite the fact he left the Lone Star State to play college football atthe University of Washington and returned to the Northwest following sixyears in the National Football League, the amiable Coffey retains his loveof his native state.
