Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week

February 4, 2008

BERKELEY - Ryan Anderson averaged 30.0 ppg and 13.0 ppg in wins over Washington State and Washington - Cal's first road sweep in the series since 2003 - to earn the honor as Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.

Against WSU last Thursday, Anderson scored the go-ahead points on a layup with 42 seconds left, then hit two free throws with 20 seconds to go to give the Bears a 67-64 lead. He finished with 27 points and 9 boards as Cal notched its first true road victory over a Top 10 team since 1995. At UW, he scored 15 straight points during one stretch of the second half when Cal went from a 51-46 deficit to a 61-56 lead. Anderson had 33 points - his fourth 30-point game of the year - and a career-high-tying 17 rebounds. Only two players in school history have had more 30-point games in one season - Ed Gray had 6 in 1996-97 and Lamond Murray had 5 in 1993-94. Anderson also set a school record for career points by a sophomore, now with 982 points.

Anderson's performances were noticed by the conference and national media, as well. He was named Player of the Week by the Pac-10, ESPN and the Sporting News.
