No. 8 Men's Tennis Team Downs San Diego, 6-1

Feb. 6, 2008

LOS ANGELES - The No. 8 UCLA men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating San Diego, 6-1 in a non-conference showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins (4-0) won the doubles point for the second time in four matches, picking up a pair of victories at court Nos. 2 and 3.

UCLA continued to dominate San Diego (1-2) in singles action, moving out to a 6-0 lead in the match by taking five straight wins.

After UCLA's Michael Look, Jeremy Drean and Nick Meister all posted straight set wins on the back three courts, all the attention turned to the stadium, where three very competitive matches remained. Bruin senior Mathieu Dehaine, ranked 32nd nationally, cruised in the first set against Chris Coetzee at court No. 3, winning 6-2. Dehaine, however, dropped the second set 6-0 before eventually battling back to take a 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 victory. Next door at court No. 2, Holden Seguso regrouped after dropping the second set to No. 63 Dean Jackson. Seguso won a 10-point tiebreaker in place of a third set, winning 6-2, 5-7, (10-6).

USD's lone point on the afternoon came at court No. 1, where 29th-ranked Thomas Liversage defeated Bruin senior Harel Srugo, 3-6, 7-6(5), (12-10).

UCLA still has one more home match this week, as the Bruins are scheduled to host No. 27 Boise State on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
