Northern California GCSA Recognizes Stanford Athletics Ken Williams

Feb. 6, 2008

Stanford, CA - January 30, 2008 - Stanford Athletics' Ken Williams was one of six award recipients recognized by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC), an organization committed to the profession of golf course management. Williams, a superintendent with Stanford University's Golf Course, was the recipient of the prestigious George Santana Distinguished Service Award for his long-standing commitment to the association and the turf-care industry.

Throughout his 13-year membership with the GCSANC, Williams' contributions include serving on the board of directors, volunteering as the editor of the association's bi-monthly publication Thru the Green, and sitting on the GCSAA National Scholarship Committee. In 2002, Williams was recognized as Superintendent of the Year, the greatest honor bestowed on a chapter member.

'This recognition signifies how well-respected Ken is within the golf course industry,' said Ray Purpur, Deputy Director of Stanford Athletics. 'This award confirms that Ken is truly the best in the business!'

In addition to Williams' commitment to the golf industry, he volunteers his time with the YMCA's Sports Division and the Special Olympics. Williams also supports Stanford's Golf for Business and Life Program, a popular course that teaches students new skills such as networking on the golf course.

Williams received a B.S. Degree with honors in Horticulture at California Polytechnic State University in Pomona. His previous duties in golf course management included the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego and the La Quinta Hotel Resort and Spa in La Quinta, California.
