Sun Devils Down Aztecs 7-0

The Arizona State men's tennis team swept through their first match of the year defeating San Diego St. 7-0. The Sun Devil men won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and swept through the singles matches.

In doubles action, the team of Wes Miller and John Nanosky II handily defeated Danny Heidecker and Tim Schultz van Endert 8-4. Juan Carlos Rebaza and Andres Arango also won their doubles match 8-5 over Andre Feliz and Jordan Coleman 8-5. Matt Brooklyn and T.J. Bellama dropped a close match to Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez 9-8 (5).

The Sun Devils won all six singles matches. In the No. 1 spot, 2007 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Brooklyn defeated Ceban in two sets, 6-1, 6-2. Newcomer Arango handily beat Heidecker 6-3, 6-0. Rebaza, a 2007 Pac-10 First-Team selection, stormed through his two sets to win 6-3, 6-2 over Andre Feliz.

On the bottom half of the singles lineup, Miller battled back from a first set loss to win his next to and take the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Bellama fought through two tough sets to win 7-6 (5), 7-5. After winning his first set 7-5, Nanosky dropped his second set but came back to win the match 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

The Sun Devils head to Alabama this weekend to compete against Southern Mississippi (Feb. 9) and Auburn (Feb. 10). Their next home match is Feb. 29 against BYU.
