No. 40 Cardinal Host No. 70 BYU on Friday
Feb. 7, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 40 Stanford men's tennis team will finish out the week's competitions with their fourth of seven consecutive home matches against No. 70 BYU this Friday at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The Cardinal will enter Friday's match fresh off their 7-0 shutout of Hawai'i on Wednesday. BYU last played on January 19, when they defeated Eastern Washington, 4-3.
The Cardinal will play three more games at home after meeting BYU, including the second annual HP Cup against Baylor on February 13, as they try to improve their 1-4 record before heading off to the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla, Calif at the end of the month. The Cardinal are led by second-ranked Alex Clayton, who boasts a 14-3 record for the 2007-08 season.
BYU's almost three-week hiatus from competition is credited to three matches (UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and Boise State) being canceled due to inclement weather. The contest against Stanford marks their first road match of the spring. BYU holds an overall record of 3-0 and is anchored by a young team, with just two returners from last year's squad.
Friday's match against BYU will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the Stanford campus, and admission to the contest is free.
