TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Softball squad will open up the 2008 regular season this weekend as they head to Las Vegas to compete in the Sportco Kick-Off Classic hosted by UNLV. The Sun Devils will face Chicago-Loyola twice, Texas Tech and UNLV over the weekend. The fi rst game starts Saturday at 12:15 p.m. PT.

Series HistoryAgainst the hosting UNLV Rebels, who went 37-27 last seasonand just barely missed out on postseason play, the Sun Devils are 19-4all-time against since fi rst going head-to-head in 1980. The last timeASU played UNLV was last season when the Rebels traveled to Tempe toplay a doubleheader. ASU topped the Rebels 9-0 and 10-9.Texas Tech is also slated to play the Sun Devils as they comeinto opening weekend without a win in the series history against theDevils. ASU holds a perfect 8-0 record with three of their wins coming inthe 2007 season, which saw ASU top TTU 12-3, 7-6 and 10-1.The Sun Devils will see a new opponent as they open with theirfi rst game against the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, whom the Sun Devilshave never faced before.

Up NextThe Sun Devils return home next week to host their home openeron Feb. 14 against Western Kentucky. After their home opener, the Sun Devils will host the KajikawaClassic, a 22-team tournament featuring fi ve of the eight 2007 WCWSparticipants. Marquee match-ups include: No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 6 Northwesternand No. 1 Arizona vs. No. 2/3 Texas A&M. Match-ups will be at10:30 and 1 pm on Saturday, March 16 at Farrington Stadium.
