UCLA's Brandon Crawford Named Baseball America Preseason All-American

Feb. 8, 2008

DURHAM, N.C. - UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford has captured preseason second-team All-American honors from Baseball America, as announced by the national baseball publication on Friday. Crawford, a junior from Pleasanton, Calif., has tallied a .327 career average in all 119 games during his two seasons at UCLA.

Crawford has become the first Bruin to earn preseason All-America honors from Baseball America since Wes Whisler garnered the distinction as a second-team selection (utility player) prior to the 2004 season.

The accolade from Baseball America marks the third preseason All-America selection for Crawford this season, as the Pleasanton, Calif., resident earned preseason third-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Louisville Slugger in December 2007.

UCLA's MVP each of the past two seasons, Crawford recorded a .335 average with seven home runs and 55 RBI last spring. He led UCLA in at-bats (248), hits (83), doubles (17), total bases (125) and stolen bases (11).

A first-team freshman All-America selection by Baseball America in 2006, Crawford captured All-Pac-10 honors in 2007 after having been named an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection as a freshman. In 2007, Crawford tied for the team lead with 24 multi-hit games, posted a team-high 16 multi-RBI performances and hit safely in 50 of 61 games.

Crawford enters the 2008 season with a .327 career average, 13 home runs, 31 doubles, eight triples, 18 stolen bases, 85 RBI and 92 runs.

Each of Baseball America's three preseason All-America teams feature 15 players, including one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, one designated hitter, one utility player and five pitchers.
