Sun Devils Blank Golden Eagles 7-0

The Arizona State men's tennis team blanked the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 7-0 in today's match. The Sun Devils won their second straight in as many matches of the season.

Beginning the match with doubles, the Sun Devils earned the doubles point with victories from the teams of Matt Brooklyn and TJ Bellama and Wes Miller and John Nanosky II. Brooklyn and Bellama stormed past Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage to win 8-3. Miller and Nanosky defeated Domagoj Anic and Jan Burmeister 8-5 in their match. The team of Andres Arango and Juan Carlos Rebaza dropped their match 8-5 to Diego Machuca and Oscar Machuca.

For the second straight match, the Sun Devils swept the singles action. Playing at No. 1 singles, senior Rebaza easily defeated Anic 6-3, 6-3. Playing at the No. 2 spot for the second consecutive match, Arango won in two sets over Poole, 6-1, 6-2. Brooklyn had no trouble playing in the No. 3 position as he was able to defeat Wessinghage 6-1, 6-1.

In the bottom half of the lineup, Miller came back from dropping a tough first set to defeat Oscar Machuca 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2. Bellama battled through three sets leading to tie-breakers to come out with a 6-7 (6), 7-6(10), 7-6 (10) victory over Diego Machuca. In the No. 6 position, Nanosky claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Burmeister.

The Sun Devils take on Auburn tomorrow at noon.
