Bruins Grab First Round Lead at Regional Challenge

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team raced to the first round lead after Day One of the Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, CA.

The Bruins posted a team score of 288 (+4) and led second place USC, Florida, BYU and Pepperdine by 10 strokes. Stanford was sixth at 16-over par 300.

A foursome of Bruins was among the Top 10 individuals. Sophomore Sydnee Michaels and freshman Glory Yang were tied for third place at even par 71. Junior Tiffany Joh and Maria Jose Uribe were tied for 10th place at 73 (+2). Junior Ryann O'Toole's score did not count in team scoring and she was tied for 38th with a 77 (+6).

Two Bruins played as individual competitors. Junior Maiya Tanaka was tied for 19th place at 75 (+4) and sophomore Lalita Boonnoppornkul was tied for 81st after posting an 84 (+13).

TCU's Valentine Derrey was the first round leader at one-under par 70.

Second round action of the 54-hole event continues on Tuesday.
