Freshman Lizette Salas fired a 71 to tie for third while senior Paola Moreno carded a 73 to lead the No. 4 USC women's golf team on the first day of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C. on Monday (Feb. 11).

USC is tied for second with Florida, BYU and Pepperdine at 14-over 298, 10 strokes behind first-place UCLA.

Salas is tied with three others just one shot off the lead. She had a pair of birdies on the 13th and 16th hole to offset two bogeys for the even round. The 71 tied her season best effort. Moreno's two-over 73 was a consistent round with just a pair of bogeys.

Sophomore spring semester transfer Stefanie Endstrasser, making her Trojan debut after playing as a freshman at Purdue, is tied for 19th after a 4-over 75 that included two birdies.

Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel and sophomore Belen Mozo are tied for 55th at 8-over 79.

Among the Trojans playing individually (and not counting toward USC's team totals), freshman Joanne Lee finished highest, tied for 19th at 4-over 75. Her round included three birdies.

Junior Shelcie Takenouchi and sophomore Caroline Kim tied for 46th at 7-over 78 while junior Victoria Alimonda is tied for 81st at 13-over 84.
