Feb. 12, 2008
SEATTLE -- Washington women's basketball fans are encouraged to 'Paint the Bank Pink' this weekend as the Huskies participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 'Think Pink' initiative during their home games with Oregon, Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. and Oregon State, Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Bank of America Arena.
'Think Pink' is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness. Husky players will wear pink warm-up shirts, pink shoelaces and pink ribbons on their uniforms, while Husky coaches will also wear pink. Fans attending both games are encouraged to do the same.
Seattle area cancer organizations will also have booths on the concourse of the arena during both games. UW Medicine and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will have its 'Mammovan' parked outside the arena on the Southwest Plaza on Sunday, giving fans the opportunity to check out the SCCA Mobile Mammography Van. The van provides an alternative way for women to obtain a mammogram by using health clinics, stores and other locations for on-site mammograms. For more information on the SCCA Mobile Mammography Van or to schedule future appointments, visit www.seattlecca.org.
In addition to the 'Think Pink' festivities this weekend, Washington will also hold its annual Alumni Game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. prior to the Huskies' 2 p.m. contest with Oregon State. Among those former Huskies taking part in the game are Tara Davis, Kate Rue, Rhonda Smith, Jamie Redd, Melissa Wushnig, Anne Teel, Loree Payne, Emily Autrey and Elise Woodward. Former Husky Karen Bryant will serve as a coach. Admission to the alumni game is free.
