Troy Finishes Third At Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge
Feb. 13, 2008
Thee Trojans finished in the top 10 while the Women of Troy maintained its streak of finishing no lower than third in four consecutive matches as No. 4 USC finished third on the final day of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C. on Wednesday (Feb. 13).
USC's third-round 17-over 301 gave it a 54-hole, 35-over 887 (298-288-301), 11 back of first-place UCLA (876) and four behind second-place Florida (883). Troy, which began the day with a one-stroke lead, still hasn't finished lower than third since the season's opening event (when it tied for sixth).
Sophomore transfer Stefanie Endstrasser's 1-over 72 was low today for the five Trojans playing for the team totals as the Austrian jumped from a tie for 20th to a tie for 10th with an 8-over 221 (75-74-72). She had three birdies on the day.
Endstrasser was tied for 10th with five others, including teammates Paola Moreno and Lizette Salas. The freshman Salas began the day tied for second at 1-over but finished with a 78 for her 221 (71-72-78). Moreno, a senior, battled her way into the top 10. She struggled through a 5-over front 9, but worked back amongst the leaders with a 2-under back 9. It was her second top 10 finish this season.
Sophomore Belen Mozo has now finished in the top 20 in all five of her starts this season, tying for 18th with a 12-over 225 (79-69-77). Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel rounded out USC's efforts, tied for 38th at 18-over 231 (79-73-79).
Among the Trojans playing individually (and not counting toward USC's team totals), junior Victoria Alimonda finished highest at 62nd at 238 (84-82-72). Her final round was a season-best effort by five strokes.
