Feb. 15, 2008
Tempe, Ariz. - California's offense continued to roll in its second game of the Kajikawa Classic on Friday, defeating the Temple Owls, 11-0 in five innings to improve to 4-4 on the season.
Freshman Sanoe Kekahuna continued her offensive onslaught with home run No. 3 on this season - a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Kekahuna finished 1-for-2 with two runs and three RBI. Erika Racklin went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI as well. The Bears pounded out 11 hits on 18 plate appearances in five innings (the run rule was implemented).
The Cal pitching was solid as well. Brittany LaRosa earned the start and gave up just two hits with two strikeouts in two innings, before Valerie Arioto entered the game to pitch the final three innings. It was LaRosa's first win of the season. Arioto allowed one hit and struck out six in the process.
Cal manufactured its first run in the first inning when Racklin scored from third base on infield groundout. The Bears, who exploded for six more runs in the second inning, got a key hit from Heather Camara, who belted a two-run double to center field. Arioto also had a big hit when her two-run double landed in center field.
The Bears continue tournament play tomorrow versus Western Michigan and Texas Tech.
