Savage Throws NCAA Qualifying Mark In Shot Put At Iowa State Classic

Sophomore Darius Savage highlighted the men's track and field team on Saturday as he threw an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put with his third-place throw of 58-10.75 at the Iowa State Classic. That mark is just 1/2 inch shy of his indoor lifetime-best and one of the top-20 marks in college this season.
Also in the shot put at the Iowa State Classic, freshman Bo Taylor finished 13th (55-4.75) and senior Greg Garza was 17th (54-1.25). In the 400m, junior Elijah Wells led the way with his season-best run of 48.16 as he finished 22nd overall.
At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, AR, freshman Jonathan Clark had another big performance in the triple jump as he placed second with a season-best mark of 50-6. That mark is just .25 inches shy of the NCAA provisional qualifier. In the high jump, freshman Taylor Hobson tied for third with a clearance of 6-8.75. Freshman Daniel Kirkpatrick, who also cleared 6-8.75, finished sixth based on misses. Clark also tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 6-6.75.
In the 800m, senior Mike Haddan led the way with his sixth-place finish in a time of 1:52.89. Junior Laef Barnes ran a lifetime-best 1:52.93 to finish seventh overall, while sophomore Marlon Patterson placed 16th (1:54.51). Freshman Cory Primm, competing in his second 800m competition in as many days, placed 25th in a time of 1:56.63.
The men's team will rest next weekend before heading to Seattle, WA for the MPSF Indoor Championships February 29-March 1.
