Cal Football Sends Six Players to NFL Combine This Week

BERKELEY - More than 300 of the top NFL prospects will descend on Indianapolis this week as the annual NFL Scouting Combine opens. With coaches, executives, scouts and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams in attendance, the combine has become the all-important event leading up to the NFL Draft. Players will go through a series of tests which will measure them physically, mentally and medically. The California football team has seven players who have earned invites to the event.
The Golden Bears who earned invitations to the combine are safety Thomas DeCoud, running back Justin Forsett, offensive lineman Mike Gibson, wide receiver DeSean Jackson, wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, punter Andrew Larson and tight end Craig Stevens. Only three collegiate teams had more players invited to this year's combine. Click each player's name for updated biographical information.
'I'm ready,' Forsett said Monday after attending an interview training session. 'I feel confident. I didn't know how much work went into it, but now I'm excited to go up there and get it done.'
The combine is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, with players divided into different groups for the various tests. Offensive linemen, tight ends and specialists will have their workouts on Saturday; quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers will work out on Sunday; defensive linemen and linebackers work out on Monday and cornerbacks and safeti4es will be worked out on Tuesday.
The NFL Network will provide in-depth analysis and footage. Live workouts will air Saturday through Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. PT each day. NFL Total Access is on location from the Scouting Combine with news, analysis and interviews from Thursday through Monday at 4 p.m. PT. Player, coach and general manager press conferences will air live Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. PT as well as Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
The 2008 NFL Draft will be held April 26-27.
The 2008 Cal Football team is scheduled to begin spring practice on March 17. The Golden Bears open the 2008 season by hosting Michigan State on Saturday, Aug. 30. Cal has posted six straight winning seasons for the first time in over 50 years while advancing to five straight bowl games (with four wins) for the first time in program history.
