Drewrey Tosses One-Hitter, Cal Rolls to 8-0 Win over Santa Clara

San Luis Obispo - Sophomore pitcher Marissa Drewrey allowed just one hit while the Cal offense pounded out 11 hits to earn an 8-0 win (in five innings) over Santa Clara in the second day of the Mustang Classic hosted by Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (9-6) conclude tournament play tomorrow versus Cal Poly at 11 a.m.
Freshman Sanoe Kekahuna was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate (including a home run), extending her hitting streak to 12 games. The Maui product also drove in two runs and scored a run. It was her seventh multi-RBI game and her sixth multi-hit game as well this year. Gina Leomiti had two hits, two RBI and two runs as well. Drewrey improved to 5-3 on the season, striking out nine of the 15 batters she faced.
Kekahuna got the Bears off on the right track with a solo home run, her sixth of the year, in the bottom of the second inning.
Cal added another run in the bottom of the third when Leomiti kept the inning alive with a two-out single to right field. Two batters later Kekahuna belted single to center field which plated Leomiti.
The Bears broke the game wide open with a six-run fifth frame. Valerie Arioto -- who led off with a triple) and Erika Racklin (who notched an infield single - both crossed home plate after a Leomiti single through the middle of the infield. Bernice Masaniai followed with a double to right field, allowing Leomiti to score. Two Cal newcomers had an inning to remember as well as Lauren Bauer and Carrie Arth hit back-to-back home runs - their first as Golden Bears.
