Feb. 23, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 29 California men's tennis team (4-3) has rescheduled its match against No. 37 Stanford (3-5) for Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. head coach Peter Wright announced today. The match-up of bay area rivals was originally slated for today at 1 p.m. The rescheduled match will take place at the Taube Family Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
When the Golden Bears take the court on Tuesday, it will be for the first time in more than two weeks since they have competed in dual play, last defeating No. 70 Utah 5-2 at Hellman Tennis Complex. Freshman Bozhidar Katsarov leads the team with 17 singles wins this season and senior Ken Nakahara has 13. With the season's four victories, Wright has 194 total career wins and is on pace to break the 200-win mark this year.
The Cardinal defeated No. 28 Boise State in a six-hour affair last night by a 4-3 score. The match was delayed several times due to rain but was eventually completed. Stanford took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three and freshman Gregory Hirshman's 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win over Paul Koenke on court six clinched the match for the Cardinal.
After facing Stanford on Tuesday, the Bears will turn around and head to La Jolla, Calif. for the 2008 Pacific Coast Doubles Championships from Friday through Sunday (Feb. 29-Mar. 2). Please check CalBears.com for up-to-date information.
