Gits Leads Stanford Competitors At USA Junior Cross Country Championships

Four Stanford runners competed at the USA Junior Cross Country Championships in San Diego, Calif. with Alexandra Gits earning a spot on the World Team headed to Edinburgh, England.

Gits was the lone female to compete for the Cardinal, finishing second with a time of 20:45. Gits finished 13 seconds off the pace set by California prep star Jordan Hasay. Gits will join the top six finishers to represent the United States at the World Junior Cross Country Championships on March 30.

On the men's side, Brendan Gregg just missed qualifying for the World Team when he finished seventh in a time of 24:41. Also competing for Stanford were Elliott Heath, who finished 27th with a time of 25:49, and Thomas Gruenewald, who finished 44th with a time of 26:23. The men's race was won by German Fernandez, a prep runner from Riverside, Calif.
