WSU Baseball Travels to UNLV for Two Games.

THIS WEEK: Washington State (2-1) travels to Las Vegas for a two-game series (Feb. 26-27) against times are 7 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday...both games will have live stats on will return home for a three-game series Friday, Feb. 29-Sunday, March 2 against Wright State (0-3).

SERIES AGAINST THE REBELS: Washington State leads the all-time series with UNLV 6-5...teams fi rst met in 1976 and have not played since 2001 when the Rebels captured two of three games in Las Vegas.

ABOUT UNLV: The Rebels opened the season winning two out of three games at home against Central Michigan over the weekend...won 6-5 decision in 12 innings in the opener...lost 3-2 despite a 4-for-4 day from third baseman Steve Rinaudo...won the rubber game 9-7 behind three hits and fi ve RBI from right fi elder Rance Roundy...Michael Brenly added three hits in the Sunday win...Rinaudo leads UNLV with a .714 average.

COUGARS AGAINST THE MOUNTAIN WEST: The Cougars are 43-31-1 againstcurrent members of the Mountain West Conference, including 4-0 under Donnie Marbut...WSU defeated Air Force and knocked off BYU twice last season...all-time, the Cougars are 1-0 vs. Air Force, 19-15 vs. BYU, 6-5 vs. UNLV, 1-0-1 vs. New Mexico, 6-9 vs. San Diego State, 2-1 vs. TCU and 8-1 vs. Utah.

WSU TAKES SERIES AGAINST CREIGHTON: The Cougars opened their 2008campaign with an 8-4 loss to Creighton in Pullman, Feb. 22, but responded to win 8-4, Feb. 23 and 5-4, Feb. 24 to capture the series...marked the 14th consecutive nonconference series the Cougars have won in Pullman, including a 9-0 mark in the Donnie Marbut era.

IT NEVER RAINS IN...WASHINGTON?: While Pacific-10 Conference schools had games delayed, postponed and/or cancelled in Berkeley, Los Angeles, Riverside and Stanford over the weekend, Washington State played a three-game series without interruption Feb. 22-24...opener marked the earliest in school history the Cougars have played a game in Pullman...this is the first season the NCAA went to a uniform start datewhich did not allows team to compete prior to Feb. 22.

COUGAR BULLPEN: Against Creighton, the WSU bullpen was stellar posting a 2.30 earned run average in 15 2/3 innings while earning two victories and a save...James Wise pitched three innings, giving up one unearned run, Feb. 22...Steve Kost picked up a win with an inning and a third of shutout ball, Feb. ve relievers combined to give up one unearned run, Feb. 24...Michael Ratigan went an inning and two-thirds for the win and Ross Humes recorded the fi nal four outs for a save.

PROTECTING LEADS: In the Donnie Marbut era, a late lead for the Cougars is likely to lead to a victory...Cougars are 74-8 (.902 winning percentage) when holding an advantage after six innings during Marbut's tenure (2005-present)...WSU is 77-5 (.939) when leading after seven innings and 81-3 (.964) when needing three outs in the ninth inning for a win...over the last 10 seasons, the Cougars are 194-26 (.882) leading after six innings, 196-20 (.907) leading after seven innings, and 200-10 (.952) taking a lead into the ninth inning.

WASHINGTON STATE IN FEBRUARY: The Cougars are 22-13 when playing inFebruary under Donnie Marbut...Washington State highlights include a 7-6 victory at No. 13 Texas in 2007 and 9-3 win over No. 10 Missouri in the championship game of the Buccaneer Classic hosted by Charleston Southern in 2006...Cougars were 10-2 in 2006 and also captured the River City Classic hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis.

COUGARS COME OUT SWINGING: Washington State batted .311 in its three-game series against Creighton, Feb. 22-24...recorded at least nine hits in each game marking the first time since a four-game stretch May 21, 2006-March 2, 2007 the Cougars had at least nine hits in three consecutive home games...senior infi elder Paul Gran led WSU with a 6-for-9 effort, including two doubles and seven RBI...freshman outfi elder John Desmarais (.455) and junior second baseman Travis Coulter (.385) also got off to good starts for the Cougars.
