Pac-10 Diving Championships - Day Two

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., -- Arizona State's Micky Benedetti rallied from a third-place preliminary showing to take his second title, this time in the Men's one-meter dive, while on the women's side Stanford's Meg Hostage won the women's three-meter title during the second day of the Pac-10 Diving Championships, held Friday at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center.

A day after defending his three-meter title at the Championships Benedetti, only a junior, continued his success on the second day of competition, winning his first one-meter title with a score of 366.20.

In a tight pack at the top, Arizona's Ben Grado finished in second position with a score of 358.85 and Nathan Kim of Stanford finished in third place two points behind with a score of 356.65.

All five schools placed a swimmer in the finals, as Stanford's Brent Eischenseer finished fifth (308.35). Two California swimmers, Tom Henninger and Taylor Diehn, finished sixth and seventh while USC's Steven starks rounded out the final group at 290.60.

In the women's three-meter final, Hostage followed up her second-place performance yesterday in the one-meter with a narrow victory in the three meter, scoring a 300.90 to best Arizona State's Erin Hobbs, who took second with a 296.30.

A trio of Cardinal took the next three places, with Carmen Stellar finishing third (295.30), Hallie Ivester in fourth (295.00) and one-meter champion Sarah Ohr finishing fifth at 285.80.

Rounding out the field were Brttany Jumer of Arizona State in sixth (283.20), Marisa Samniego of UCLA in seventh (281.25), and Stanford's Katie Lampe in eighth (263.05).

UCLA's Laura Winn was injured when she hit her head on the board during the preliminary session of the three-meter dive, she was taken to hospital. No further information is available at this time.

The Pac-10 Diving Championships will conclude tomorrow with the Men's and Women's Platform Competitions.
