Records Set in Day One of MPSF Championships

Feb. 29, 2008

SEATTLE, Wash. - Four members of the California track and field team set new school indoor records in the first day of the MPSF Championships Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Track Facility. In addition, the Golden Bears got four more individual NCAA Indoor provisional qualifiers and the men's distance medley relay also provisionally qualified and set a school indoor record. The Cal women currently stand in fifth place with 23.50 points, while the men are in 10th with 11 points.

Senior Thomas Mack once again broke the school indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.89. The record he previously set was 7.94. Another indoor record set was in the men's 5000 meters. Freshman Kari Karlsson posted a record-setting time of 14:08.58 to provisionally qualify for the indoor national championships.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Allison Stokke set both the school indoor and freshman records with her mark of 13-1.00 (3.99m). Fellow teammate, junior Katie Morgan set the same mark, as both pole vaulters provisionally qualified for the indoor championships. Stokke and Morgan tied for third in the competition.

The men's distance medley relay, consisting of senior Andres Perezchica, juniors Mark Matusak and Jake Hanson and sophomore Michael Coe, provisionally qualified with a school-indoor time of 9:38.39. The relay placed fourth in the race.

Freshman Cherrelle Garrett won her heats in both the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters. On the men's side, junior Kellan Patterson took first in his 200-meter heat and junior Steven Conrad took first in the 60 meters as part of the heptathlon.
