Cal vs. Washington State Postgame Quotes
February 29, 2008
PULLMAN, Wash. -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
On tying the school record of 24 wins set in 1983-84
'I'm glad. We're trying to get to the end here, and we knew this was going to be a tough road trip. So, I'm happy to get out of here with a win, but I'm disappointed with how we came out and played.'
On Cal's accomplishments this season
'This team has accomplished a lot this year, and I don't want to take anything away from them. We're 24-4. That's a big step for being in February, not even in March yet. It says a lot about what we've done this year. I'm not trying to take anything away from that; I just have the mindset that we can do more. We have the potential to go anywhere and play well. We have to be in that mindset to play at a championship level every day. We have the potential and talent to do some serious damage in the Pac-10 Tournament. We're all at the point right now that it's one and done. There's no resting on your laurels any more.'
On Washington State
'They were real fired up. They played a great zone. They put a lot of pressure on our guards. We had 23 turnovers. We were shooting the ball well. We shot 53 percent, but you're giving up 23 turnovers. A couple more possessions would have been nice.'
On Cal's play tonight
'We have to understand that we can't continue to play at a level that's here (even). We played a Stanford game that's March Madness basketball. I know you take dips along the way, but we're too old for this. We're junior heavy. We're three years into this program. If you're going for a Pac-10 championship, you have to go take it. Nobody is going to go hand it to you.'
On Alexis Gray-Lawson's and Lauren Greif's performances
'I thought Lexi and Lauren brought an edge tonight...There was a little bit of fire in them. When we needed something, they brought it, whether shooting or a rebound or some defense. We can't rely on (only) three people, and we have to stay out of foul trouble.'
