PULLMAN, Wash. - Four relievers combined to blank Wright State over the final four innings and Washington State completed a three-game series sweep with a 7-4 victory in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Sunday.

The bullpen effort made a winner out of Jared Prince (1-0) who gave up four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings of work. The victory was the first for Prince since April 30, 2006.

The Cougars (7-1) won for the seventh-straight time and are off to their best start since 1993 when they were also victorious in seven of their first eight outings. WSU won its 15th-straight nonconference series in Pullman dating back to the 2002 season.

'Jared gave us exactly what we needed today, WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'It was nice to see him get into the sixth inning, but I think he got a little tired. 'Our bullpen has been great so far this season and today was no exception.'

Andrew Davis entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with one out, runners at first and second, and the Cougars holding a 7-4 lead. The senior transfer took seven pitches to strike out Jeff Mercer and Ross Vagedes to end the threat. The Raiders' duo was a combined 11-for-22 in the series prior to facing Davis.

After Davis pitched a perfect eighth inning, Ross Humes logged a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the season and 15th of his career, second on the WSU all-time list.

Senior first baseman Jim Murphy staked the Cougars to a 2-0 lead with a home run down the right field line leading off the second inning and a two-out RBI-single in the third.

After the Raiders picked up a run in the top of the fifth inning, Washington State responded with five runs in its half of the frame. With two outs, senior third baseman Paul Gran blasted a two-run dinger over the center field wall to put the Cougars on top 4-1. After Gran's homer, Murphy was hit by a pitch, and sophomore second baseman Michael Weber and junior-transfer catcher Alex Burg singled to load the bases. Senior right fielder Scott Suttmeier drew a walk to force in a run and freshman center fielder Garry Kuykendall capped the rally with a two-run single.

The Raiders (0-6) cut their deficit to 7-4 when Vagedes hit a three-run home run to right field that chased Prince in the top of the sixth inning.
