March 2, 2008

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sophomore Michaela Ahlin and junior Elyse Peterson competed at the Pacific-10 Invitational Sunday. Both were trying for the NCAA Automatic cuts in their respective events.

Ahlin touched in under two minutes in both her attempts in the 200 butterfly, clocking in with a 1:59.56 time in her first swim and 1:59.73 in her second. The NCAA Automatic qualifying time was 1:58.99.

Peterson swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.61 in her first attempt and 1:02.74 in her second. The NCAA Automatic qualifying time was 1:01.70.

'Although neither improved on their times from earlier in the weekend, they did an outstanding job of stepping up and coming as close as they did to their lifetime bests,' said WSU Head Coach Erica Quam. 'This is a difficult environment and swimming as well as they did twice within an hour make their efforts even more impressive.'
