No. 12 Cal Competes at Spartan Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif - The 12th-ranked California women's golf team continues its spring season at the Spartan Invitational Monday-Tuesday, March 3-4, at the Almaden Country Club, in San Jose, Calif.. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday beginning at 8 a.m., with the 15-team tournament concluding on Tuesday with 18 holes at 8 a.m. A shotgun start will be utilized both days.

The field consists of: California, Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Idaho, Long Beach State, North Carolina, Oregon State, San Francisco, No. 35 San Jose State, Santa Clara, UC Irvine and Washington.

Cal's lineup for the Spartan Invitational features (in order):

Freshman Pia Halbig (74.4)Junior Allison Goodman (74.9)Junior Shannon Yocum (75.9)Sophomore Roseanne Niven (75.5)Freshman Andrea Waters (first competition)

At the 2007 Spartan Invitational, Cal tied for second with Colorado with a score of 892. San Jose State won the event at 877. Allison Goodman led the Bears by tying for third at four-over 220.

Cal opened the 2008 spring season with an 11th-place finish (924) at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. Freshman Pia Halbig tied for 20th to lead all Cal golfers.
