March 4, 2008

STANFORD, Calif.- Playing at home for the first time since Valentine's Day, No. 6 Stanford looked sharp in a 5-2 victory over No. 26 William & Mary on Tuesday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal, kicking off the start of a four-match homestand, improves to 8-3 and extends its regular-season dual-match home match winning streak to 98. The Tribe falls to 8-7 overall and has now dropped four in a row with two contests remaining on its West Coast swing.

Tuesday's victory was also the 200th of Lele Forood's coaching career. Forood, now in her eighth season at the helm, has directed the Cardinal to an unthinkable 200-8 overall record during her tenure.

After claiming the doubles point, Stanford went on to win three straight singles matches and clinch the match early.

Durkin and McVeigh then contributed points in singles, winning at the Nos. 3 and 5 spots, respectively, to increase the Stanford lead to 3-0. Durkin defeated Ragini Acharya 6-4, 6-2 before McVeigh breezed past Lauren Sabacinski 6-3, 6-2.

Junior Jessica Nguyen clinched the match when she followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Katarina Zoricic at the No. 2 position.
