Lumpkin Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior Elizabeth Lumpkin has been named the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 25-March 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced late Monday.
Lumpkin defeated three ranked players from highly-ranked teams, from the No. 5 position for the Bruins this week. Against No. 4 Baylor, Lumpkin defeated No. 37 ranked Jana Belikova, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 to open the week before rolling through No. 45 Whitney Deason of No. 6 Stanford, 6-4, 6-1. The senior stalwart closed out her weekend besting No. 87 Bojana Bobusic of No. 11 California, 6-2, 6-3.
UCLA, currently sitting at No. 9 in the ITA poll, will play its first Pac-10 counting match against Washington State on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week award for Lumpkin and third for the UCLA women's team.
