Darkness Halts Stanford-Saint Mary's After Nine Innings With Score Tied, 7-7
March 5, 2008
Moraga, Calif. - A wildly entertaining non-conference contest between Stanford and Saint Mary's was halted after nine innings with the score tied 7-7 when darkness fell at Louis Guisto Field on Wednesday. Stanford took an early 4-0 lead in the contest before Saint Mary's answered with six straight runs to take a 6-4 lead heading into the top of the ninth. Stanford scored three times in the top of the ninth to take a 7-6 advantage before the Gaels fought back with one run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the contest.
The umpires and coaches met on the field at the end of the ninth inning and decided that conditions were too dark to continue. The game will be resumed prior to the next meeting between the teams scheduled to take place at Stanford's Klein Field at Sunken Diamond on Wednesday, April 23 (6 pm, PT).
Stanford will continue its current five-game road trip with a three-game non-conference series at Texas this Friday-Sunday, March 7-9 (2:30 pm, 2 pm, 1 pm, CT). The Cardinal will then take its annual break for finals with 11 days out of action before returning for home game against Pacific on Friday, March 21 (7 pm, PT).
A full recap will follow.
