Scheele Takes Fifth At NWCA National Wrestling Open

Epworth, Iowa - Stanford freshman Steve Scheele took fifth place on Saturday at the Second Annual NWCA National Wrestling Open in Epworth, Iowa. The 141-pounder won three matches to place in his first collegiate tournament.

Scheele beat his first opponent by technical fall and won a major decision over his second opponent to reach the championship semifinals. The freshman dropped his semifinal match but battled back through the consolation bracket to take fifth place.

Scheele, who also competed unattached at the Menlo Open and the California Collegiates this year, improves to 4-6 on the year.
