Senior right fielder Roberto Lopez led off the first with a single up the middle and stole second on a delayed steal. Nick Buss hit a groundout to move him to third and shortstop Grant Green brought Lopez home with an RBI groundout to short. Perren then followed with a solo shot to right for the 2-0 USC advantage.
Pepperdine scored its lone run in the eighth to knock out Vasquez with the bases loaded. Freshman righty Ryan Cabral struck out David Harris to end the threat and help preserve the victory.
