Appleton has also climbed WSU's career lists this season, moving into fourth place with 116 career 3-pointers, and sixth place with a .375 3-point field goal percentage.
'There are so many great players in the Pac-10, and for Katie to be mentioned with them is a credit to her drive to be a great basketball player,' WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. 'With all of the extra hours she puts into this game, and with her leadership on this squad, it is fun to see her recognized at this elite level.'
Kelly, a true freshman from Auckland, New Zealand, has started 24 games for the Cougars this season. Her 31.15 minutes per game rank 13th in the Pac-10. Kelly leads WSU in assists with 2.4 per game, and has averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game this season.
'I am really proud of Kezia,' Daugherty said. 'For a 17-year-old true freshman to be honored shows just how much she has improved this year. She is competing at the highest level in the Pac-10. It is really great to see.'
WSU faces Oregon Friday in the opening round of the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament. The Cougars and Ducks are slated to tip-off at 6 p.m., at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
